Towards the end of 2000, I wrote to Venom Performance and RC Engineering concerning the actual flow rates of the first generation Probe GT's fuel injectors. I've got tons of information on all Probes, but for some reason I don't have a single reference anywhere that mentions the fuel injector flow rates. Venom Performance replied stating that the injectors flowed at 'approximately' 300cc/min, while RC Engineering claimed 330cc/min. Although the number from RC Engineering sounded more accurate, I'd read several good reviews on Venom products so I decided to go with them. In February of 2001, I purchased a set of Venom fuel injectors for my '91 GT from CoxImport. The injectors were to have a 10% increase in flow rate over stock.

When I received the injectors, they included a test sheet showing, among other things, the flow rate of each of the four injectors that they sent me. The problem was, 220cc/min were listed for each one, rather then the quoted flow rate of at least 300cc/min. I called Venom a few times and they ended up telling me to just send them back. A week later, I received a call from Venom's technical department. I was told that the original injectors that were sent to me were, in fact, the correct ones. They assured me the 2.2L turbocharged engine's fuel injectors flows at 200cc/min and the 10% upgrade that I ordered were the 220cc/min injectors that I received. They then shipped them back to me.

By the time I had received them back, my Probe had been taken off the road for the engine rebuild. I wasn't in any hurry, but I began sending out letters to Ford and Denso about the actual flow rates of the injectors in the first generation Probe GT. Ford, as usual, promptly responded with the expected news... that the injectors were actually 330cc/min.

To assure that the information was unmistakably correct, I followed up by sending out three pairs of injectors out of three of my Probes to be tested; the '89 LX (2.2L), the '90 LX(3.0L), and the '91 GT (2.2L Turbo). Marren Motorsports tested the injectors, made up a report, and shipped them back to me (only after forgetting about them and letting a month go by before I had to remind them that they had my injectors). As expected, my '91 GT's injectors were 330cc/min.

I contacted Venom once again and was forwarded to Greg who was quite helpful. After hearing that their specifications on the injectors were wrong, he arranged a swap for the injector size of my choosing, which would normally be a custom job and therefore subject to a higher price tag. Although I was considering a much higher flow rate, I settled on 370cc/min. I figured I could always adjust it up a bit with the fuel pressure regulator. Shortly after, I received my injectors with a test sheet showing the correct injector sizes.

Although I did have a considerable problem with Venom... one that would have been amplified if I had been in an actual hurry to install the injectors... I do have to recommend them. Everyone I talked to there was very knowledgeable and helpful (very rare these days) and they were quick to fix the problem when they realized that there was one.
