Default Royal Purple VS Castrol GTX synthetic

Just a quickie here. i have used royal purple before...Ive been using castrol GTX synthetic for the past maybe 5 or 6 changes.. I really have seen no difference in ither really. I can get 5 quarts and a good filter for like 25 bucks on sale..a little better that the 7.99 a quart +tx for royal purple. Anyone have a difference of opionion.

also

I always hear people on anycar they wanna sell or whatnot sayin they change there oil every 3000 miles. To me, thats just wasting money using royal purple when they dont need to. People should change there oil every 3000 miles if they drive like assholes goin 60 in 35 zones 24/7, and are in dusty areas, and aggressive driving. Depends on what im doin in that 300 miles depends on when i change it. Ive gone sometimes 7500 miles before changing and the oil looked like its only been 2000 miles. I just laugh when people have cars for sale and say they never abuse it but change oil every 2500-3000 miles and say they no everything about cars. If they did, they wouldent change it that often unless they race alot, absuse the shit out of it, or just are plain stupid and like wasting 50 bucks a chage on royal purple when they can easyily go 2 - 3x as long with the shit.

I'm not a Castrol fan either but I like Royal Purple, out of curiosity what bad results have you had?

I did this cost comparison when I stated running Royal Purple and was very glad I did. Valvoline Synthetic Blend is $4.99 a quart but can only be run for 4000 miles, Royal Purple Full Synthetic is $8.99 a quart but can be run for 10,000 miles, so it isn't as expensive as you'd think. For the following example I'm using K&N oil filters at a price of $10.95 each.

Now if you wanted 20,000 miles of protection you can use 25 quarts of Valvoline Synthetic Blend at a cost of $124.75 and use 5 oil filters at cost of $54.75, for a total cost of $179.50 for Valvoline Synthetic Blend. You could also use 12 quarts of Royal Purple at a cost of $107.88 with 4 oil filters at a cost of $43.80, for a total cost of $151.68 for Royal Purple Full Synthetic. I'm using 12 quarts of Royal Purple for two oil changes because one quart will be lost in a filter change at 5,000 miles on the oil, because at 5,000 miles the filter will be reaching it's capacity and will need to be replaced.

So by running Royal Purple Full Synthetic as opposed to Valvoline Synthetic Blend you'd actually save $27.82 for every 20,000 miles you drove.

*Disclaimer*
I have had oil spectrum analysis's done to find the limits for these two oils in my particular engine, so these claims are well founded and show that generally Royal Purple is not more expensive to run in an engine despite it's larger up front cost. That being said these mileage intervals do not apply to all engines and the only way to truly know how long you can run a oil in your engine is to have the oil spectrum analyzed. The analysis's I had done were on oil from a 2.2L non-turbo F2 engine with a range of 10,000-30,000 miles on the engine as these test were done.

I never ran into that. In my cars it's always made them run quieter, run 20-30 degrees Fahrenheit cooler, and when you shut off the car you could definitely hear the rotating assembly continuing to spin longer then it use to when I ran cheaper oils.

I wonder why you were getting that smell, that's really odd.

probably getting that smell cause your seals were half assed, and the Royal Purple was so good it was bleeding through them and burning, and burning synthetic Royal Purple prob doesnt smell good

i used Royal Purple in my last oil change on my gray gt....then blew my head gasket lol....so now its milky Royal Purple in there....i think ive ruined that engine letting it sit with coolant in one cylinder and milky oil in it...gonna have to drain it all off before i start it to move it into the garage for teardown and hopefully i didnt ruin the block

nope 90GT had all new seals, both cars run or ran synthetic all the time. I've ran Amsoil and Mobil1 for the rest of the time. I took the purple out of my wife's jetta around 1000-1500 miles.

I'm surprised u haven't thought of AMSOIL! Did u know they recommend 25,000 or 1yr oil changes, whichever comes first?

U should try that oil analysis. u might be surprised on how long oil can actually last.
Changing oil every 3K miles could probly be a scam to try and make us spend more money on buying these big co.s oil.

I run AMSOIL 5W30 in my wife's Malibu Classic with the 2.2 Ecotec. I change it every 15000 with filter changes every 5k. It runs nearly silently on a cold startup in 0 degree weather. It's only about 2.5 times the cost of regular cheap oil.
