BTW Chris, I was talking top a guy who builds VWs around here. He says he can change that seal in 5 minutes without removing anything.

Then we are talking about different things. On any new VW/Audi, the Cam adjuster itself needs to be replaced to stop a leak. It's not a huge deal, pop the valve cover, pop the cams, replace the adjuster. Not a giant ordeal.
But, what pisses me off, is that it's a very expensive job that needs to be done far to frequently. I have also seen way to many VWs come in with barely expired warranties, water pump failed, timing belt shredded, and now it's head job time. I'd get it if this is a isolated thing, but we're talking cars with 50k or 60k on it, I think it's pretty insane. I don't suffer for it.
My boss said it best- VW makes some of the nicest pieces of shit on the road.
I think nothing but the best of your VW, it's of the vintage that "just works" but the newer ones are shit. I've told you before, we don't really work on any like yours. A little maintenance, but either your gen doesn't break, or we don't have any customers with them. I suspect the former.

I have the 2.0 liter 8valve gas engine, simplicity is best. 99.5 mark4. I think the dood I talked to said it was something only on 1.8Ts which I will agree are garbage. Built to be boosted in every way shape and form, yet can't handle anything bigger than the stock turbo. Actually you said "cams". My engine only has one cam, so we are talking different engines I believe. If I ever had a different VW engine besides the 2.0 gas, it'd have to be a tdi or a turboed vr6.
We're all big boys and girls here. Its all good.

VAG is vw, audi, renault, seat, lambo, bently, and bugatti... i think i have named them all..(the have very little to do with porsche now)
i am an ex audi master tech and i will say that the guy who claims to change the timing chain adjuster seal in 5 minutes is a liar and there is no 2 ways about it.. you cant pull the coil pack out and get the valve cover off in that time frame.. while yes it is really easy and i love doing them for the easy money. at the dealer warranty paid 3.0 hrs and the cp time was 4.0 hrs.. with the tool to compress the tensioner i could do one start to finish including cleaning up all the old oil and leak testing in under 1 hour.. usually about 45 minutes. a little faster in the beetle and tt since the have the transverse mounted engine..
