Underdrive Pulley Installation

Covers:

The Underdrive pulley upgrade increases usable horsepower by decreasing the weight along the driveline. The underdrive pulley not only has a smaller diameter then the stock pulley, allowing the drive belt accessories to spin slower, but also weights considerably less... 14oz. compared to the 66oz. stock pulley. This drop in weight means the crankshaft is less restricted from having to overcome the weight of the stock pulley.

Required

Removal

  1. With the parking brake on, raise and safely support the front of the car.

  2. Remove the right wheel.

  3. Remove the five 10mm bolts holding the inner fender panel in place and remove the panel from the vehicle.

  4. Loosen the A/C compressor lock nut and then loosen the A/C compressor adjustment bolt. Loosen the two 14mm lock bolts below the compressor. If necessary, loosen the A/C compressor pivot bolt. Remove the A/C-power steering belt.

  5. Loosen the alternator 12mm lock bolt and then loosen the 12mm alternator adjustment bolt. If necessary, loosen the alternator pivot bolt. Remove the alternator belt.

  6. Remove the six 10mm bolts from the crankshaft pulley and remove the pulley from the vehicle.

Installation

  1. Install the new pulley onto the crankshaft and tighten the bolts to 9-13 ft/lbs.

  2. Install the new alternator belt. Tighten the 12mm adjustment bolt until the alternator belt is firm. Do not over tighten. Tighten the 12mm lock bolt and pivot bolt.

  3. Install the new A/C-power steering belt. The A/C compressor will need to be lowered completely to get the new belt on. Tighten the adjustment bolt until the belt is firm. Do not over tighten. Tighten the lock nut, two lower lock bolts, and pivot bolt.

  4. Reinstall the inner fender panel and install the five 10mm bolts.

  5. Replace the right wheel and tighten the lug nuts to 65-87 ft/lbs.
