Step 2: Installing The New Stereo Unit

1. If your Probe came with just an AM/FM radio or AM/FM Cassette unit, mount the radio using the hardware that came with the new unit. Some creativity may be required. If your Probe came with a CD player, you will either have to obtain the OEM tray that normally is under the radio unit of Probes without CD players, or cover the opening left by the missing OEM CD player with a piece of plastic.
2. Connect the wiring as shown below:

*NOTE: If the new stereo does not have a ground wire,
connect the stereo unit's metal chassis to the vehicle's chassis.

3. If your Probe has the premium sound system option and you plan to use the factory amplifier with your new stereo unit, proceed to Step 3 before continuing.
4. Connect the antenna wire to the stereo unit.
5. After all connections are completed and the new stereo unit is mounted, reinstall ashtray, ash tray trim, and shift trim.
6. If your Probe had the premium sound system option and you do not plan to use the factory amplifier with your new stereo unit, you must bypass the amplifier completely. For instructions, proceed to Step 3.
