The following
is the installation procedure for installign a Pacesetter Shifter. Procedures
may vary slightly with the brand of shifter.
Tools
Required
Removal
- Engage
the parking brake.
- Remove
ash tray from center console.
- Unscrew
the gearshift lever knob (A).
- Gently
pry up on the center console panel to remove.
- Remove
the four gearshift lever assembly nuts (C).
- Raise
and support the vehicle.
- Remove
the two nuts on the exhaust inlet pipe to catalytic converter connection,
directly under the gearshift lever assembly (B).
- Detach
the exhaust hangers and lower the catalytic converter.
- Remove
the four floor pan center sound insulator nuts and remove the sound insulator.
- Remove
the control rod to support bar nut (E).
- Remove
the transmission selector shift rod adjustment sleeve nut (D).
- Remove
the gearshift lever assembly (B).
Installation
- Install
the new gearshift onto the assembly as the included instructions describe.
- Reinstall
the gearshift assembly (B).
- Reinstall
the transmission selector shift rod adjustment sleeve bolt and nut (D) and
tighten to 12-16 ft/lbs (16-22 N·m).
- Reinstall
the control rod to support bar bolt and nut (E) and tighten to 28-38 ft/lbs
(38-51 N·m).
- Reinstall
the floor pan center sound insulator and four nuts.
- Raise
the catalytic converter and attach exhaust hangers. Install both nuts on the
connection and tighten to 14-18 ft/lbs (19-25 N·m).
- Lower
the vehicle.
- Reinstall
the four gearshift lever assembly nuts (C) and tighten to 14-18 ft/lbs (19-25
N·m).
- Reinstall
the center console panel.
- Screw
the gearshift knob (A) back on the gearshift lever.
- Reinstall
the ash tray.
