Working
with Carl at Walbro, I was able to get a performance pump and installation kit
for first generation Probes, using my '91 GT as a test subject. I supplied the
OEM equipment, while he supplied the pump and kit.
Parts
Required
- Fuel
Pump (kit should include everything needed)
Tools
Required
- Pliers
- Phillip's
Screwdriver
First,
I hope I don't need to remind anyone that gasoline is flammable and some precautions
need to be practiced when working with the fuel system.
Old
Pump Removal
- Open
the gas cap to relieve the pressure in the fuel tank.
- There
should be two clips holding the rear seat in place. Slide a screw driver or
long object under the seat and release both clips. Remove the rear seat.
- Disconnect
the connector from the fuel pump harness.
- Remove
the four screws holding the fuel pump cover in place.
- Lift
the cover and disconnect the other end of the fuel pump wiring harness. Remove
the cover.
- Use
the pliers to release the clips on both fuel lines to the pump assembly. Remove
both lines from the assembly.
- Remove
the eight screws holding the fuel pump assembly in place. and pull the assembly
from the fuel tank. The assembly might be a bit tricky to remove. Try to twist
it until the filter is out first, then the rest should follow.
New
Pump Installation
Make
sure you install the pump onto the assembly as the included instructions describe.
Installation is the reverse of the above removal procedure.
