ECU Removal/EPROM
Identification
Covers:
- 1989-1992
2.2L 4-Cylinder Turbo Engine
Required:
- Phillips
Screwdriver
- 10mm
& 14mm Socket/Wrench (Required for Step 3 & 4)
Procedure:
ECU Removal
- Remove
the three push tabs from behind the right side of the center console (red
arrows). The tabs are removed by first pulling the center tab outward, then
pulling the piece out. Remove the trim piece from the vehicle.

- Remove
the two 10mm bolts from the right side of the ECU (red arrows). Disconnect
the wire harness strap (blue arrow).

- Remove
the three push tabs from behind the left side of the center console (red arrows).
Remove the trim piece from the vehicle.

- Remove
the two 10mm bolts from the left side of the ECU (red arrows).

- Side
the ECU out though the left side. Disconnect the three wire connectors from
the unit and remove it from the vehicle.

Procedure:
ECU Disassembly
NOTE: Circuit
boards in the ECUs are very sensitive to electrostatic discharge. Do not touch
the board circuitry itself when opening the ECU case without first grounding
yourself.
- Remove
the four phillip's screws in the top of the ECU case (red arrows).

- Remove
the six phillip's screws from the top circuit board.

- Lift
the top board out and flip over towards the front of the case. The EPROM is
in the lower right corner of the top board.

Identification
Make note
of the EPROM code on the EPROM itself (example: 079753-1143). The ECU code is
printed on the top of the ECU case and again on the front of the ECU case (example:
F2F6).
